  • Colchester in Bloom - WINNERS!

    Fri 25 Sep 2015

On Wednesday 23rd September, Mrs. Watts and Mrs. Terrell had the pleasure of accompanying six of our pupils to a very special ceremony at the Moot Hall in Colchester. It was the awards ceremony for the ‘Colchester in Bloom’ competition that we took part in during the Summer Term. We were the winners of the ‘Hanging Gardens of Colchester’ category and we were also commended in the schools’ category. We received two lovely certificates which we will hang with pride in school.

The pupils representing our school had a very enjoyable evening and were fabulous ambassadors for our school.

Many thanks to everyone who helped us to do so well by donating plants, baskets and seeds last term. We hope you enjoy looking at the photos too. (You can find them on the 'Gallery' page on the 'Children' tab.)

Do you have a child due to start school in September 2015?

We warmly welcome interested parents to one of our school tours, when Miss Griggs (Headteacher) or one of her senior members of staff will be available to show you around our school and answer your questions.

Places are strictly limited to 10 people per tour, so advance booking is essential. Please call our school on 01206 852109 to book a place on one of the options listed below.

(Please be aware that, due to limitations on space, we are unable to accommodate buggies and pushchairs on these tours. Thank you.)

Essex County Council co-ordinate all admissions to our school. Essex parents must apply for primary school places by completing the Common Application Form.  This can either be completed on line at www.essex.gov.uk/admissions  or you can use a paper application form.  Please do not do both.  Parents can express preferences for up to four schools, both in and out of Essex and in the order of preference.

The closing date for primary applications is 15 January 2015.  This is the statutory national closing date set by the Government.

  • Bake Off Finals!

    Fri 17 Oct 2014

We were very proud of Milly and Josh in Year 6, who represented our school at the 'Bake Off' Finals today. Hosted by The Gilberd, Milly and Josh joined with children from 6 other local primary schools. Each child had to make 'Mary Berry's Victoria Sandwich' and the results were judged by representatives from Tesco at Highwoods and the Head and Deputy Head Boy and Girl from The Gilberd. Both Milly and Josh made excellent cakes and we were very proud of them both.

The 'icing on the cake' (!) was that Josh was awarded first prize overall. Well done!

  • Great Myland Bake Off!

    Thu 16 Oct 2014

This week, we held our 'Great Myland Bake Off'. Children in Years 5 and 6 were invited to bake either a large cake or 12 small cakes of their choice. Our very own 'Mary Berry' and 'Paul Hollywood' came to judge (otherwise known as Mrs. Wade and Mr. Wood!)

The standard of entries was exceptionally high and it was very difficult to choose two winners to go through to the finals at The Gilberd. Our judges narrowed the entries down to a final 8 and each baker was interviewed by Mrs. Wade and Mr. Wood.

After a lot of thought, Milly and Josh were announced as winners. Well done to everyone who took part (and thank you to parents for your support too!)

Take a look at our photos on the 'Gallery' page (on the 'Children' tab).

  • Well done! Amazing results!

    Fri 26 Sep 2014

We were delighted to receive a letter this week from Chris Kiernan, interim Director of Education at Essex County Council. The letter congratulates us on our 2014 end of Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 results. Our Year 6 results show that over 91% of pupils made at least 2 levels progress in Reading, Writing and Maths, with over 40% making 3 levels progress in Reading and Maths. In addition, our Year 1 Phonics result at the end of last term indicated that 87% of Year 1 children achieved the required standard in the Phonics Check, which is a fantastic achievement. All of these results are testament to the hard work and commitment of our entire staff team and, of course, our children. As a school, we are committed to ensuring the highest possible standards for our pupils, as our results clearly demonstrate.
