Welcome to Beech Class

Classteacher: Miss A. Lee

The children have had an amazing week back at school. We have been exploring telling the time in Maths as well as continuing to rehearse our times table knowledge. In our Mini Mission lesson, the children used drama to explore new vocabulary in the class text. They were encouraged to use their body language and facial expressions to represent a variety of quotes from the story.

Beech Class really enjoyed creating a text map for the new model text and were very enthusiastic when thinking of actions to accompany the text. Your child has been given a copy to bring home so that they can continue to rehearse the text map.

The children had a fun afternoon in Science exploring materials as they change state. They were investigating which temperature was the best for melting chocolate the fastest. All of the children worked hard to present their results neatly in the form of a bar chart.

Beech Class have also been writing action stories based on our model text, 'Ice Palace.' All of the children tried hard to include features of the text type.

Friday 29th April 2022

Over the last couple of weeks Beech Class have been exploring unit and non-unit fractions. They have also begun to explore mixed number and improper fractions. In English, the children have really enjoyed retelling the class model text.

In Art, the children have been exploring the work of Anthony Gormley. They sketched a model and then recreated the pose using pipe cleaners. I hope you enjoy looking at the photos. Can you guess how the character is feeling in each pose?

Squash at the Garrison

This week year 3 children visited Colchester Garrison to play squash. After a quick warm up, the children took part in catch squash before using rackets to play a game. The children demonstrated a really good understanding of the rules and were able to name the five different shots in squash. They all enjoyed themselves and were brilliantly behaved. I have included a few pictures from the day.

Beech Class have been learning about Judaism and the importance of the Torah. The children enjoyed learning about features of a synagogue and could explain why the were important to the Jewish faith.

The children have worked hard in all areas this Half Term and now deserve a well-earned break. I would just ask that you continue to encourage your child to work on their times tables over the coming week and to continue to read aloud to you at least three or four times.

Thank you for your continued support.

Friday 14th January 2022

We have been working on multiplying 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. I have sent the children home with an example of each of the three methods that they have been taught as some children have found this a little tricky. I hope you find it useful.

Friday 7th January 2022

The children had a great time in their DT lesson exploring different levers and linkages. They worked in a group to create a design based on the 'Iron Man' and began work on their product. I have included a few photographs from stage one of the process. I hope you enjoy looking at them.

Friday 19th November 2021

We have been working on addition and subtraction this week, including calculations which require an exchange. This can be a tricky concept for the children so they have been given a copy of an example of the method that we use to bring home so that you can work on this together if you wish. Feel free to catch me on the playground if you want to talk this through.

Have a lovely weekend.

This week Beech Class have been exploring how dialogue shows how a character feels. The children acted out extracts from the class text, 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret' and tried to use their body language and voices to show how their character was feeling.

In Science, Beech Class have been learning about the human digestive system. They had great fun exploring what happens to food when it enters the mouth and travels through the body towards the rectum. I hope you enjoy looking at the photos that I have included for you to look at.

In Art, we have been looking at overworking the tie-dyed fabrics we made earlier this term. Our work was inspired by the work of William Morris and Banksy. Because of this, our finished pieces incorporate both floral and stencil  designs. We have linked these to our class text, The Firework-Maker's Daughter. I have taken some photos so that you can see just how beautiful the children's work is.

Friday 10th September 2021

The children have had an amazing week and I am really pleased with how hard they have been working. We spent the afternoon learning to tie-dye pieces of fabric as part of our Art topic.
