The children have worked so hard this week! They have been punctuating speech brilliantly. We found it tricky to punctuate speech when there was more than one person talking, but they had it cracked by the end of the week! Superstars!
In Maths we have been finding quarters of objects and quantities. I have included some additional practice on finding quarters of quantities, as it is something we had to work really hard on.
The children all very much enjoyed making their emotion bottles in PSHE. Thank you for your support in providing the bottles.
Have a super weekend,
Mrs. Harrington & Miss Westfall.
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we have been learning how to punctuate speech in English and the children have been brilliant! We have also looked at how to include synonyms for ‘said’ and adverbs to make our writing more interesting.
In Maths, we have moved onto a unit of learning about fractions. The children all felt confident in finding half of a shape or object, but found it more tricky to find half of a quantity.
I have included some practice of this below if you would like to complete these at home with your child.
Have a lovely weekend,
What a first week back it has been! As you know, we had some very important visitors in school this week and Cedar Class made me very proud! Whether it was participating in lessons, reading to our visitor or showcasing all their learning, the children were all amazing.
We have learned a new text map in English, with a focus on dialogue. We will be learning all about how to include dialogue in our writing over the next few weeks.
In Maths, we have been using our multiplication knowledge to solve division problems, which the children have coped really well with.
We are continuing to consolidate our 5 times tables, so please continue to practise these at home, particularly division facts for the 5 times table.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Harrington & Miss Westfall
It has been lovely to talk to so many parents at our consultation evenings this week. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend.
The children have had another busy week, completing assessments and POP tasks, as well as a HOT Write in English. They also enjoyed their last hockey lesson with Coach Cameron before moving onto something new after the half term. I am including some photos of them enjoying their hockey lesson below.
We hope you all have a fun half term and look forward to seeing the children on Monday 24th February.
Mrs. Harrington & Miss Westfall
We have had a wonderful week celebrating ‘Children’s Mental Health Week’ this week. The children have really enjoyed journaling each morning and reflecting on their emotions. We have also set up two new stations in the classroom; ‘How are you Feeling?’ where children can share how they are feeling using the Inside Out characters and ‘I wish my teacher knew...’ where children can share information they feel they would like me to know. Both of these are entirely optional and free for the children to access as they want or need.
Have a super weekend,
Mrs. Harrington & Miss Westfall
It was amazing to see so many parents at our Shared Learning Session this week. Thank you for coming! We hope you enjoyed the session; we were so pleased to read so many positive comments on the feedback forms.
In Maths this week, we have started a unit of learning on multiplication and division. As always, the children have taken it in their stride and are achieving really well. We will continue this for the next few weeks.
In English, we are now learning about writing a diary entry. The children have learned a new text map and very much enjoyed the drama activities we took part in to support their deeper understanding of our new text.
Our new displays are up in school! The children did an amazing job with their weaving to make Stinky Cheese Men!
Have a super weekend,
Mrs. Harrington and Miss Westfall
Thank you to everyone who attended our Shared Learning Session this week. The children loved sharing their learning with you and being teachers for an hour!
We have been so proud of the children this week! They have worked so hard to get ready for our Shared Learning session with parents next week and have all written wonderful suspense stories!
We have been continuing our work on learning our five times multiplication and division facts, so we are fluent in recalling the facts as quickly as possible! Lots of us are really confident with multiplication facts now, but are still finding the division facts a little tricky. Please continue to support your child in learning their times tables by practising at home as much as possible.
Have a super weekend,
Mrs. Harrington and Miss Westfall.
This week in English, we have begun to adapt our model text to create our own stories filled with suspense. We will continue with this next week before creating their own independent stories. In Maths, we have continued to work with numbers to 100 to develop our understanding of the value of each digit. This will support us in our upcoming work on multiplication and division in the coming weeks.
We are also working hard in Art to create new displays for the classroom and corridor. We look forward to you seeing these soon!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Harrington & Miss Westfall
Happy New Year! It was lovely to see all the children this week and they all had wonderful memories to share from their holidays.
We have had a really busy week in Cedar Class, but the children have been as amazing as always! They have been super at learning their new text map which has a focus on suspense. They have completed a variety of drama activities to help them memorise our new model text and have identified the features of suspense writing to use in their upcoming work.
In Maths, the children are working with numbers to 100 and we will be tackling the 5 times tables to become fluent in both multiplication and division facts.
Everyone enjoyed their hockey lesson with the Sports Coach this week. These sessions do take place outside, so please ensure that your child has a warm tracksuit and suitable footwear in their P.E bag.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Harrington and Miss Westfall.
