Welcome back Maple Class!
It has been lovely to welcome everyone back to school after the summer break. I have enjoyed hearing all about what the children have been up to over the summer holidays. Year 6 have been working hard to settle into new routines and I have been so impressed with all of the class. On Friday last week, the class enjoyed meeting their new Reception buddies and they are already proving to be fantastic role models to the younger children!
We have started our new topic and units of work since coming back to school. We have delved into our new book, ‘The Watertower’ which is proving to be very popular and eerie! This has helped us to think about suspense writing in English. We have completed lots of science experiments linked to our new topic, ‘Forces’ and Maple Class have enjoyed learning about the Vikings and where they came from in history.
I am extremely proud of how well Maple Class have started the beginning of their Year 6 journey. Every member of the class has come back to school with amazing learning attitudes! Keep it up Maple.
Miss Pender 😊
Well done YEAR 6! You have all worked incredibly hard and everyone at Myland is very proud of you all! Don't forget to come back and visit us when you can. Here are some photos from the production!
This week has been Class Swap Week and Year 6 have been busy with Mrs. Carter doing lots of different activities. It was lovely to have them all back in Maple on Thursday morning. It was wonderful to see lots of parents and children at Exhibition Evening on Thursday night. The children have worked so hard on their work this year and we are so proud of them.
Well done Year 6 – not long left now!
Have a lovely, sunny weekend. 😊
It has been a very hot week in Maple Class, but the children have powered through the heat! This week, the class have been working hard to get their topic books up to date. They have completed their Proof of Progress (POP) task in science, showcasing their understanding of evolution and inheritance. I was really impressed with the outcomes. They have also enjoyed learning more information about the Galápagos Islands as part of their geography learning and have produced some fantastic leaflets!
We have had lots of rehearsal time for the production, too and the children are looking forward to performing soon!
Reminder: The Year 6 team have spoken to children about clothing/costumes for our production and they can start bringing in these as soon as possible. Please make sure that all clothing is named.
Thank you so much for your support. Have a lovely weekend.
Miss Pender 😊
We have had a very different week in Maple Class this week because Year 6 have been out on their transition days. It has been incredibly quiet in the classroom! We started the week together on Monday, when some of the children enjoyed their second swimming session. I cannot believe the incredible progress that many individuals have already made. In topic afternoons, we have continued to explore the geographical features (human and physical) of South America. In science, the class enjoyed doing some independent research all about Charles Darwin using internet research and books from the library. On Friday afternoon, the children practised for sports day! Maple Class were excellent leaders and role models for their teams.
Well done Maple! Have a lovely weekend in the sunshine! 😊
Maple Class started the week off with their first swimming session. During this session, the children were assessed by the swimming instructors. I was extremely impressed with everyone’s effort, enthusiasm and encouragement. A letter was sent out on Tuesday informing parents about future swimming sessions. I am also really impressed with Maple Class’ fantastic narrative writing this week! They have worked hard to use their setting description toolkit to bring their writing to life for their reader. In Science, the class participated in an experiment designed to demonstrate how different adaptations helped different finches in collecting food. This experiment was inspired by Charles Darwin’s findings on the Galapagos Islands. We also had very mature discussions about dealing with emotions, challenges and changes in PSHE.
Well done Maple Class! Have a great weekend. 😊
We have had another very busy week in Maple Class! In our morning sessions, Year 6 have been working hard on their production and I am so impressed with everyone’s enthusiasm and acting skills this week. In English, we have explored the question: Should animals be kept in captivity? We have had some very mature discussions around this and the class have been writing a balanced argument about this topic. In Science, we have looked at inheritance and explored inherited and environmental traits that we get from our parents. Today, we continued our D.T. project by looking at count-controlled loops.
REMINDER: Swimming starts on Monday. The children will need a swimming costume/swimming shorts and a towel. They will also need an additional pair of shorts and a T-shirt for swimming safety skills. 😊
Well done Maple Class. Have a great weekend!
It has been lovely to welcome the children back to school after the half term break. I hope everyone had a lovely break. This week, Maple Class have been working hard in English to write their own newspaper articles inspired by our class text, ‘Not My Fault’. I have been really impressed with how well everyone has used a formal tone and direct and reported speech. Each morning, we have continued our production rehearsals and I am so pleased to see how many children have learned their lines already! We have also started our new book: ‘What Mr Darwin Saw’ and have had some great discussions based around the story. Maple Class have also started lots of new topics in Science, Geography and D.T. On Thursday afternoon, we tested the step counters that we created in Computing and marched across the school.
Well done for a great first week back, Maple Class. Have a lovely weekend! 😊
This week, Year 6 have been introduced to their production (SIR DAVID HATTENSCARF AND THE WONDERS OF THE WORLD). They have enjoyed getting to know the songs and parts that they might be interested in. In English, we have been working hard this week to plan and write our own letters of complaint inspired by our class text (Not My Fault). The class have written formal letters complaining to the local council about the park. Maple Class have been brilliant at applying lots of different tools to ensure they have a formal tone for their audience. In the afternoons, Maple Class have enjoyed looking at how diseases are prevented in History and creating a mixed-media bust, inspired by Frink, in Art.
Well done Maple – have a lovely half term break.
Miss Pender and Mrs. Yearling
WELL DONE YEAR 6!
Well done Year 6 for completing your SATs week! All of Year 6 have been absolutely amazing and the adults in Year 5 and 6 are very proud of their hard work. The children have shown resilience and have persevered brilliantly throughout the week. Thank you to all the parents that have sent in materials for us to use for our ‘junk modelling’ in Art. I know the children have really enjoyed creating their models this week too.
Well done Maple Class. Enjoy your well-deserved weekend!
Miss Pender and Mrs. Yearling 😊
We have had another busy and productive week in Maple Class. This week, we have finished off our revision sessions in preparation for the SATs next week. I have been really impressed with everyone’s topic work this week. The class have enjoyed learning lots of new topics in the foundation subjects. In history, we have been learning about previous pandemics and the class produced some fantastic work exploring the Black Death and The Great Plague. This book is all about relationships between siblings and we have already had some really mature discussions. On Thursday, Maple Class enjoyed the start of our history topic exploring changes in medicine through time. I have seen some beautiful work presented as timelines! We have also started some display work as a ‘hook’ into our new book. We used art to present the main character’s different emotions. I will upload some photos soon!

It has been lovely to welcome the children back to school after their half term break! We have been busy in Year 6 as we have started our revision sessions altogether as a Year 6 cohort. I am so proud of all of the children because they have made such an excellent start to their revision. All week, I have witnessed fantastic, positive attitudes towards their learning. Thank you for encouraging your children at home to complete their pages each night and reminding your children to bring back their revision guides each day. In the afternoons, we have started lots of our new topics, including Ancient Egypt in history, which I know the class are very excited about.
Well done for a very busy first week back! 😊
