Year 6 Residential- September 2025

Monday 22nd September

We had a lovely afternoon at Eden Camp - complete with blue skies and sunshine! Everyone has settled happily into their rooms and we have had a lovely evening meal followed by a great session of storytelling from Rose, our favourite Whitby storyteller.

Everyone is tired…………… but happy!

Tuesday 23rd September (written with help from Elliana!)

We started the day with a delicious breakfast with lots of choice. Everyone especially enjoyed the sausage, scrambled egg and beans. Even thought the catch journey was quite long, we arrived at Magna in time for our scrumptious packed lunch. We were excited to explore the four pavoliions - Fire, Air, Water and Earth. We saw an amazing fire tornado and also an air tornado in the Air pavilion. We had a splashing time in Water and dried off enough to see 'The Big Melt' which was loud, sparky and taught us how steel was made.

We spent some time in the science adventure park and then boarded the coach for Cober Hill. We had a delicious meal of carrot soup,  pasta bolognaise and iced cake this evening and then wrote our cards for home and did some sketching, colouring and puzzles. We also sang a very loud 'Happy Birthday' to Mrs. Richardson. After some birthday cake, we settled for another good night's sleep.

(Thank you for helping to write this, Elli! )

Wednesday 24th September

Today, we enjoyed a sunny day at Beamish. We had a real-life Victorian lesson with a strict teacher. We had to do some reading, handwriting and some tricky maths. Lots of us ended up with blue hands from the ink pens!

Sadly, one of our children was arrested...............

The crime committed was theft of sweets and the police officer was very keen to catch the culprit. The children were asked to be in an identity parade and, unfortunately, the culprit was found to be................

Elliot!!!!

Please do not be alarmed! This was part of an enactment in the 1900s town at Beamish and the children  entered into the 'drama' very enthusiastically! (Well done, Elliot!!)

We enjoyed roast chicken for our evening meal and then visited the staff's hair salon and played board games before bedtime.

Thursday 25th September

Today we spent a great day in sunny York learning all about (and, of course, tasting………) chocolate. The children listened exceptionally well during both their tour and their workshop - so much so that we received compliments from the staff about the children's behaviour and retention of information.

Everyone made their own chocolate lolly and a chocolate slab and we were given goody bags to take away too. We watched a chocolatier make fresh, hand made chocolates filled with raspberry and we also got to try them - they were delicious!

After showers, packing and dinner, we finished off the week with a very noisy - but fun for everyone - disco!

Friday 26th September

We enjoyed our last breakfast at Cober Hill and thanked all the staff for looking after us so well and then loaded the coach. We set off for Whitby Abbey in brilliant sunshine and took our traditional 'hats' photo before exploring the ruins. After spending the last of our pocket money in the gift shop, we walked back to a spot on the hill by the Abbey to enjoy our Whitby fish and chips (or sausage and chips).

We've had a great week!

(From Miss Griggs: the children have been an absolute delight to take away - we have received so many comments from both the venues we have visited and members of the public about the children's outstanding behaviour, manners and attitude and we are so proud of them all. They have been excellent ambassadors for Myland - well done Year 6! My thanks also go to Miss Pender, Miss Jarrett, Mrs. Yearling and Mrs. Richardson for all their help and hard work this week.)

P.S. We will aim to upload all of our photos to this page over the coming week.
